There aren't many modifications you can do to a four stroke without getting alot of money, and some hard work involved. Your 1st mod should be a pipe. SuperTrapp makes the IDSII, which is very common on 250X's. They will add a noticable bark, without breaking your back pocket. When you get the pipe, I recommend you go ahead and get a K&N filter, Outerwear, and a DynoJet jet kit. When you put on your pipe, K&N, and the Outerwear, take the airbox lid off, and then jet it to perfection. If that still doesn't meet your needs, you might look into a big bore kit. Your factory carb puts out enough juice to supply a factory engine. Unless you bore it and change the cam, your stock carb will due.

You can order chain and sprockets from Rocky Mountain ATV. They offer Renthal(aluminum) and Primary Drive(steel). I have Renthals on my Banshee, and have been pleased with them. As for a chain, there are many different companies. DID makes a good, inexpensive chain that will more than meet your needs. Good luck,

On my old 87' X I had a T-4 pipe and I ran 14/38 gearing for fast trails, good wheelies, jumping and alot of drag racing.

Default Mods for 87 250x

The 87 250x's are slow as heck! so I concentrated on getting more power out of mine since it has an awsome amount in stock trim. For starters take you air box lid off. That'll give you some more pick up and go and add a little pep to the thing. Then if I were you i would get a 12 toothed sprocket in the front instead of the stock 13, and keep the stock 38 in the back. I run steel sprocketson mine cause they last longer. I have a standar link o-ring chain that has lasted me forever so pick one of those up if dont have one already. I'd get a set of nerfs and heel guards and also a nice chain guard since the rear ends on these things are so vulnerable. Next I'd get some maxis razors in the back, and u should have a real nice quad that will dominte on the trails with out breaking the bank. But if u had alot more to spend i'd get a pipe, some beadlock rims, and a new suspension set up. Good Luck!
