I talked to Spark yesterday about a Carrillo rod that I bought from them. The rod did not come with a pin or bearings. Sparks reply was that 19 out of 20 motors that they built with a Carrillo did not need bearing or a pin, stockers would work fine. This is very uncomforting to hear. If i go to the expense of buying a $240 rod...damit I want new bearings and pin. Sparks went on to tell me that the only place on the planet to get rod bearing and a pin was to buy a complete X rod kit that cost $160. $400 seems kinda steep for a no hp gain. But then again, a hole in the motor would cost alot more. Anyone need a X rod without bearing and pin cheap?

The 400 does seem to have a problem with cracking cases. I thought it might only be modified motors, but it seems interesting that a stock motor has done it as well. I have seen 3 different motors with cracked cases mine, one at ECMX, and one on Ebay. I have also been told about 2 others. All of them were severely modified. I think that in alot of cases modifying a motor speeds up the inevitable, and in the case of the 400EXs counterbalancers and crank assemblies it seems as though their might be a problem.

Points well taken, major modifications to engines (440's) may come with some unwanted side effects. However, this STOCK engine of mine should not explode like it had a stick of dynamite in the crankcase... :-(

I could see that if I had replaced the rev limiter and was always revving the crap out of it.

Like I said b4, I'll let everyone know how it turns out.....

Talked to the dealer and they'll be "squeezing it in" on the 16th. That's the soonest they could get to it since it is such a major job (yank the engine and split the cases completely). However, some of the case pieces have already been automatically removed..... :-(

Will give an update as soon as I know something....good news I hope....
