What is the stock size jet in a 01 400ex?? What do you recommend going up to in the winter months (15-30)?

The main jet is a 148 and the pilot or slow jet is a 38. As for cold weather, you could go up to a 40 or 42 slow and a 155 main, if you need to. Are you showing a lean condition when the machine is warmed up or are you just having trouble getting it started?

This is actually for one of my good buddies. He is having trouble getting it started and it is showing lean signs ( I think). The pipes glow red when he is riding.

I have a 02 Banshee, but it is a totally different beast than the ex.

Thanx again

No problem. I am by no means a carb expert on the 400ex. I have the stock pilot and a 155 main, but I don't ride in the winter. Do a search in the Honda forum on "jetting" and you will find some great info. Also check out these websites:

EX Riders

Honda EX

They both have some great info on jetting.
