I need a builder or a list of parts to make my 500 out run my buddys banshees. One of the banshee's has been dynoed @ 108 hp.So if any of you know of a good builder for the 500 or a good combination of parts to really wake up the old girl that would be appreciated. What size of carb should i go 44mm mikuni? What pipe dynoport, fmf, procircit, other? Reeds vforce right. What else? thanks

You're kidding, right?
If not, I assume you are a pretty good driver, or else you wouldn't be asking how to 'power up' your CR. Honestly, I think they have pretty good power already, but I guess I could tell you what I know.
I USED to ride bikes a while back (late '80s), and it seemed that White Btothers seemed to know what to do to get good power, and keep some sense of reliability. There were others, to be sure, but it has been TOO long since I did that.
If memory serves me right, they made big bore kits, porting, bumped compression, etc, to get whatever power you wanted.
Muzzy Motors also did a lot of engine mods, but I think they did more 4 stroke stuff.
Before you get too radical, be sure that you already can't keep ahead of him. A bike has less weight, and less rolling resistance, as well as being more nimble & maneuverable. You might be able to keep ahead of hime as it is.
If memory serves me right, the '85 or '86 CR500 actually made so much power, that Honda de-tuned it to keep people from killing themselves.
Sorry I couldn't be more help, but now that you are back to the top, maybe someone else could add to what I said.

make sure your bike isnt in need of a rebuild then you could get a fmf pipe and silencer with ported cylinder and head along with new reeds and then you will need to learn how to ride it!!if rode to its capabilities you should be all over them!!also you could change your gearing some.i dont think you can get 100 hp out of that moter but at least around70 to 75.

I've torn down an '89 CR500R before. Here's what I reccomend. Keep in mind though sometimes they kick over like a mule even when they're stock. Stroker kit, high compression piston and milled head, port and polish, boysen reeds, go with as big of a carb as you can without sacraficing power preferably something with an accelerator pump.. when you up the compression you could make it run on alcahol, most importantly I'd get a custom pipe made for it and a big bore piston too. You've got a lot more nuts then I do man. The one I rebuilt was stock bore but had an FMF fatty on it. That thing was sick.

Need4speed, who makes a custom pipe for the five hundred? First im going to go with v-force reeds than a milled head. I think porting would make the biggest difference but who is a specialist in porting a 500? Theres a guy on the net that said his was dynoed @ 103 hp but he wouldnt give me any specs. You guys are great thanks for helping me decide how to get my slug rolling!
