Ok i was tightening the bolts on the little black heatsheild on the stock pipe of my 300ex, and snapped the head off the one bolt and now have the rest of the threads screwed into the bracket on the pipe. Also i was putting the plastic back on and snapped the head off the bolt on the side above the pipe that screws throgh the plastic into the frame. Now do i need to drill and tap through both sets of broken threads or is there and easier way. Please help
Thanks

Sounds like somebody needs a torque wrench...
If there is any of the bolt left sticking out, you could try and get at it with a pair of vice grips. I also belive there is a device called easy out, which is basically a small, reverse thread, self tapping screw that you screw into what's left of the bolt, then, when it's tightened in, it makes it possible to pull the screw out.

Heres something I do that works every time. Spray the broken bolt with penetrating oil, let it sit a couple minutes. Then, take a small drill bit, maybe 1/8" (depending on the size of the broken bolt), and drill into it about 1/4". Then, put a larger bit into the drill, put the drill in reverse mode, give it full power, and jam the bit into the smaller hole. Works every time, and I'm not even a hillbilly.

If you have a mig welder you could weld a nut over the stud. This work very nice if the stud is broken near the surface or so. If it is under the surface a few tack for rebuilding the stud than weld a nut. You might have to repeat that procedure two or three time before it work specialli on smaller bolt.. WAIT FOR YHE STUD TO COOL OF BEFORE YOU TRY TO REMOVE IT

How does it work????

The heat during the welding make the stud to dialate and when it is cold the stud in more smaller in diameter and esayer to get looss.

It can be done with and arc welding machine also but you need to be more precise and use stailess stell rod of very small diameter because the fls will cover up and protect the thread. There are also scécial rod for that.

In every case disconnect your battery ground cable because you can burn electronic with a faulty ground.

Sorry for my english, i am french and doing my best....

Good luck
