nah..its not my first...its gonna be my first new one...but ive had and still do have a suzuki lt50 , honda atc 200x , kawasaki mojave 110, yes its an '88 mojave 110..they didnt make very many of them if youre wondering why youve never seen/heard of them a honda rancher, and a yamaha 80cc moto-4..and theyre all old ...before 1990, but they all run and start excellent...but what ive been riding recently is my uncles mojave 250..its a 1999 and hes got razrs in the front and back, supertrapp ids2 pipe and a k&n filter....its ok, but im looking for something with more power and of course...my own.and incase you were wondering ...all the atvs that i listed abouve arent mine...but they belong to my dad and/or my grandpa

I think it will fit you just fine, especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time cause I doubt your done growing, he!! didnt start growing til I was 15. Anyways I thought they were huge quads but I pulled up beside one a couple weeks ago on my little 250 and it wasnt much bigger I thought. Frame and height wise. But I find the 250 too small now and wish I had gotten a 400 now. But they dont have reverse but like most say anyways if you aren't big enough to jump off and swing the front around, you shouldnt be riding it in the first place. They still weigh under 400 pounds and are lighter than a 300ex by a few pounds. So I say go for it.

It will fit you just fine. I'm 5'6", and I'm more comfortable on my EX than my Raptor.

I'd say the 400EX will keep you happy for a long time

but if I was gonna buy a brnad new one...

I'd have to wait a couple of months and check out the new Suzuki Z400
it's supposed to be faster than the 400EX, have reverse, and be the same price

I'm a big Honda fan, and love my 400EX, but some things you just have to consider.

It will be fine for you if you respect it and have some supervision for a while on it.
Be careful and enjoy one of the finest quads made.

You've got a son who's 15? That must mean you'll soon finish high school, if you're lucky before he does.
