Last weekend I punctured a front CV Boot and have ordered a new one. In the repair manual, it says to replace the rings that hold on the boot. In order to get the new boot on, I must remove the other boot, therefore I would have to replace the two rings on the broken boot side and the two rings on the good boot side. The rings are about $9 each so that makes the total about $36, more than the boot I am replacing.

Anyway, my question is, does anyone know why they suggest replacing these? They seem like they would work just as well if I used the old ones. I can see that if you tried to reuse them several times, the tabs that hold the clamp down would become brittle, then they would warrant a replacement.

Any input would be helpful.
