How can a frame based on the 250R frame crack and break a lot? I find this hard to believe. The chasis is a work of art and if it cracked and broke a lot then why are most aftermarket frames also based on 250R geometry?

Need4Speed:

When people talk about 250R geometry they arent't talking about reliability, although they are reliable. But rather the angles and width of the front end, shock travel, etc. A frame is made of steel (Mild, chromoly) and steel fatigues as it is flexed repeatedly. Any frame is going to break sooner or later. They are built to hold up for a certain lenght of time, yet must be light, so they try and find the happy medium between longevity and weight. People who ride really hard and race alot will just do it much sooner than most, because of the impact put on the frame. Also even if you don't ride real hard, engine vibrations also cause failure. Eventually the tensile strenth will be so bad the frame is going to break all the time no matter what you do, and most 250Rs are to that point or very close. While staying with Cory Ellis I asked how long a Leager's frame will last and he saids after two years they will crack, then he will redo it and then it will last another 1-1/2 to 2 years worth of riding. Its just the laws of dynamics, and mechanics and properties of materials at work, just as with everything.

I like the idea of 400ex plastic on a 250r....I'd trade both my quads and some cash for a nicely built one of those.
