As for the weight, 392 pounds is the claimed weight, years ago, I'm taking early ninties this came up in some publication, the actual machine tipped the scales in the high 400s wet. just like the R is more like 350 lbs.

I stand by my claim that they are hard to start especially with a high compression piston.

As for being jealous, I admire the LT500 but I wouldn't trade my R for it. I've had two friends in the past that have owned them and they spend more time repairing them than riding them. It's as simple as that, we have a big group of sport quad riders, mostly banshees, I would call the two guys with the Lt500s to meet up and most of the time it was "oh I can't go I broke ..." When they did go out and we got them started they had a higher breakdown rate than the all the other bikes in the group combined. These were not rat bikes, they were very well kept.

There is a reason why a mint stock trx 250r sells for $3500-4500 and a mint lt500 sells for $2000-3000.

 

I think a qaudzilla can be riden competivly in mx.The reason why do not see them is because there is no open class racing.The classes are based around 250r based machine's.And now the new 4-strokes.

My dad has had 2 zilla's on was in a LT250R frame and fullysetup for mx.It was really really fast and hendled extremly well.He also had a 87 that wax mildly built.I rode that on a small mx track and it was awesome.The only problem I was having was digging big ruts in corners!I was jumping over my dads head.It was an awesome machine.No doubt.It also beat Ds650's and trinity built banshee's in a drag race.

The reason the crank bearings go out faster than other bikes is because there is an alot of pressure on them from the long stroke and big bore.This wears out the center cases.


As for being hard to start.He had just rebuilt it with a .080 over wiseco piston.I am 16 and wiegh about 150 pounds and I could start in a couple kicks easy.Just make sure U are wearing some riding boots!


That is my feeling.I also own a 86 trx250r setup for mx and while yes the are awesome bikes and I would probably rather have my R than a zilla.U still should give the zilla some credit.Most people don't when they should!
