Need some opinions on IDS2 Pipe
#1
I am in the process of finalizing a deal for a IDS2 pipe for my Rancher. However interested in knowing if they are A TON louder than stock? Also does it use the OEM header and just slip on....or does it contain the header and the pipe normally? Thanks for any information and experiences with the IDS2 pipe. Your suggestions, comments and opinions will help tons.
Also one more thing......DO they really make that much difference in power? I have the K&N kit in it right now.....with the addition of the pipe......will i gain a ton of low and mid range....or will i even notice?
Thanks again

I just installed the IDS2 and the k&n kit, I have the Quiet Core pipe,
It is louder than stock , but it is not as loud as you might think.
I was worried about how loud it might be,,but I'm satisified with it.
Mine attaches to the stock head pipe,,but when I removed the old exhaust
there is a gasket between the headpipe and the exhaust being removed. You will need this gasket for new exhaust. Either buy a new one , or , reuse the old one. Mine was in good shape and I got it out without tearing it up.
I started with all 12 discs in it,, I noticed a big difference with these
mods.. I just removed 6 discs, but did not get a chance to run it with this change yet....

I did a little research on the internet and this is what I found:
Remove discs to decrease the exhaust opening and increase back pressure.
* This decreases the powerband to give you more low-end torque.
* Decreases the exhaust tone.
* Enriches the carburetion.
Add discs to increase the exhaust opening and reduce back pressure.
* This increases the powerband to give you more top- end.
* Increases the exhaust tone.
* Leans out the carburetion.
I was running all 12, and my speed increased a lot..
I have a lot of low end but I'm in the process of tweeking, and I'm trying to get more...
More discs increases horspower this equals speed
less discs increases torque this increases low end...

Its louder than stock but not too bad. On the Rancher, it will replace about 12 inches of exhaust pipe with a new "S" bend pipe and then the muffler will go on. There is a gasket there that you will need to replace. It is Honda part number 18391-ML8-000. This is a VERY common Honda gasket so any Honda shop should have it in stock. I have never been able to reuse that gasket. You will need to seal ANY joints in the exhaust with exhaust gasket sealer. Note the word "exhaust" in exhaust gasket sealer. That is a MUCH higher temp sealer and is made for exhaust systems. You local auto parts store (exhasut section) will have it. If you dont use this you will be more prone to exhaust leaks, which can lead to a loss in power and back fires. When you install the discs be absolutely sure to use high temp anti sieze (again auto parts store exhasut section) will have this. If you do not, the three bolts that hold in the discs will get stuck over time. If you ride deep mud you must remove the discs and clean them often. If not they will clog big time.
