400EX or 250R?
#1
Hey guys, I have an 86 Suzuki LT250R. This thing breaks so much I can't afford to keep it running anymore. Im going to sell it for a more reliable machine.I know since a 400EX is a 4-stroke it will be much more reliable but I realy like the power of 2-strokes. I dont want a quad that gets a swingarm crack, blows a head gasket or wont start every week. Im looking for a quad to trail ride aggresivly and go to the track on. What do you guys reccomend? Thanks

Both are great machines. Just because the 400Ex is 4 Stroke, doesn't mean it is any more reliable. I have an ATC250R that has been ridden hard close to every day for the last 6 months, and was ridden Very hard everytime it was taken out before that, and it is just now being rebuilt, thats 17 years on the sotck piston/bore. The only mechanical problem it's had is the Carbuerator leaked and was rebuilt(I know this becuase I know all the previous owners) so if a 2 stroke is taken care of, it will last along time. Now with that in mind, common sense will be to get the 250R because they are faster, hanle good(porbably the same as an EX) and they are easier to get more power out of. I guess I am kind of biased on this topic, but I don't think you will be happy with a 4 stroke, unless it is highly moded or a Cannondale.

My vote is for the 400EX. Easily modded and bulletproof. The only times that I've had to work on mine are for maintenance or upgrades.

Always go for the R over anything else. There is nothing like the sound of an R and that power is unmatched. They are easy to work on, lightweight and handle like a dream. There is an abundance of aftermarket performance parts and you can do most all of the work yourself. Besides, what other quad are you going to buy that will hold it's value!!

I had the same problem trying to decide 2stroke or 4. I am very please with the Cannondale, so much I plan to upgrade to the moto.
I have $8500 into my Cannibal and it is currently on ebay with a very low reserve it you are interested.
