can you change swing arm bearings yourself or do you have to take it in. the book says you need a press, can a vise be used instead, or do y you need a presss? an if you do have to take it in, can you take just the swing arm in? any info would help out, thanks

IF you can, weld a bar across the inner race, from side to side, then use it to beat on from the opposite end of carrier to knock the bearing out. If the inner race breaks apart then reweld another cross bar inside what is left of the outer race and beat it out too.....you pretty much have to destroy the bearings to get them out.

Ok, forget all that. I used a socket, just the right size to fit into the bearing seats. Using a long extension, put the extension through one side, connect the socket to the extension in the middle of the 2 swingarm bearings with a large hammer knock the bearings from the inside out.

Yes, you can use a large vice to reninstall the bearings, before that, use some light sand paper to clean the inside of the swingarm where the bearings will seat, and you should deffinently use new seals, or the next time you run through a creek, it will wash out your grease, I also use white marine style grease in all my bearings, it holds up much better to the abuse, and resists water much better. Always pack the bearings and any air pockets all the way to the seals to keep water out.
