Man if you want my opinion you can't beat the SUPERTRAPP systems. They have the best of both worlds. You can run them with the discs to cut back on the noise or wide open for the most power.Even with all the discs there is a big performance upgrade over stock.I don't know about on the 300 but my friend put a white bros. pipe on his new 400ex and wasn't real impressed with the results, but don't base your decision on that.I'm sure the guys on here will give you a bunch of good input.Just remember that if you put a pipe on,you will need to also upgrade your air flow into the engine to get full benifit from your exhaust. GOOD LUCK !!!

I have installed a Poweroll header pipe on my 94 ex and got a good bit more power. I bought this so I could retain the stock muffler as I was a security guard at a campground for about two years. I also added a K & N filter with a Moto-force (?) air box lid. After a jet change, it will tap the rev limiter in first thru fourth gears. Rides good without the noise!!!

Yes you should put on a high flow filter such as the K&N or UNI. The reason being if you put on a pipe you allow the motor to exhaust more. If you don't allow more air in you will not see any benefits from the pipe. More flow in = more flow out=MORE POWER. You probably will have to rejet your carb. I only went one up on the main, 122 to 125. Good luck!
