250 ex and 02 recon questions!!!
#1
I noticed at yamahadiscountprices.com there were two models listed for the 250 ex..
2002 TRX 250ES
$3599.99
2002 TRX 250TM
$3399.99
Both of these are the ex's... Whats the difference?
Next How well does the 02 recon compare to the ex? Dirt wheels said it now has the reworked ex motor for the 02 model. I am leaning tward the recon for my wife because of the mud protection. Anybody ridden the 02 recon? is it close to being as sporty? How is the ride?

The ES and TM models you mentioned are Recons. Not 250EX's.
The TM is "two wheel drive/ manual shift"
The ES is "electric shift"
The new '02s are noticably more powerful than the '01 models.
They ride extremely well, but so does the new Ozark250 from Suzuki. I haven't ran these machines head to head regarding power, but the Suzuki actually has a better ride than the Recon to me. seems to have about the same power off the bottom as well.

Knowsalot,
thanks, When will the Ozark be out? I talked to a dealer in Maine yesterday and he said not till June....
Can you tell me more about the Ozark? how sporty is it? can you wheelie easily? stability? Why I ask is we were looking at the 250 ex, but needed better mud protection, its cold in Maine. No fun when you get wet!!! So we are looking for a comparible "fun" machine!!!
And check out their site.. Yamahadiscountprices.com..
They show the recon at 3199 for manual and 3399 for es
250 ex at 3399 manual and 3599 es.. Must be errors..

The new Recon has a little more power than the previous model, but not that noticable. The 250EX is great little package as well. I don't think anyone will be able to give you much comparative info until the Ozark actually hits the dealers. It certainly looks like it will be a nice quad, and will be stiff competition for the 250cc class of quads. Have fun choosing.

I think the delivery dates for the Ozark depend on when your dealer ordered them. We have had ours for two weeks now.
I have ridden one of the Ozarks around a bit, but not enough to say that it has more power the Recon. It definitly feels close to it however. Not sure about top speed. But I can tell you that, to me, the Ozark is far more comfortable and has a helluva lot more mud protection than the Recon.
And is no where near as cold natured as a Recon either.
It would be hard for me to pick between the two if I had a choice. I would wait till your dealer has gotten his and test ride it compared to the Recon. Only you know if the machine will suit your needs.
Good luck in your decision.
