I said cast has higher content of silicone for greater strength, not that it is stronger than forged.

Silicone is harder to machine.
most cast pistons have like ~11 to 13% content.

There are companies that cast pistons with a higher silicone content, between ~14 to 17. But machine technol;ogy has to be up to date. CBN tooling etc..

the nut said:

<< Depending on what alloy the cylinders are cast from and what heat treat was performed and how well, and whether the cylinder is alloy-chrome, nikasil, electrofused or sleeved, your going to have different expansion/contraction rates peroid. Not to mention rings and thier properties... >>

have any of you noticed that I said for 2 strokes the cast is better?

like the nut said it is a age old argument.

I did point out the different expansion contraction rates. No one seemed to understand the materials involved are different and there rates of exp/contraction are different.

So the fact remains that none of us know, its all preference.
I'm sorry I pushed my opinion to far, but it is my opinion. and opinions are like a$$, well you know the rest.

you like forged I like cast.

I asked mickey dunlap this question, I hope he replies to it.
I simply asked him which is better in a 2 stroke, I hope he answers.

Mickey, albeit a good builder, is primarily a 4 stroke guy, no?

Hrmm, well I guess Robert106 has rode his 250R into the endless pit of fun, and is not coming back. Oh well. As long as he doesn't run AV gas, he'll be fine
