400ex starting in cold weather?

If you modded your airbox and gutted the stock pipe, you probably should lower the needle clip (raise the needle) one position, and bump up your main jet a little bit. It's amazing how much better my bike started/ran once I got it jetted correctly.

yeah i forgot to mention that i already bumped the main jet up. actually with the lid modded, the pipe gutted, and it being winter i 152-155 seems to work quite well. i have the 155 in right now and it seems to run fine but i think i will put the 152 in to see if it is better. i will try the needle also. thanks

StevieD, no offense, but if you can't get your spark plug out, it doesn't sound like you should be messing with your motor at all. Go to the Honda Dealer and get it tuned up. (New Plug, Valves adjusted, Oil and Filter Changed, Air Filter Cleaned, and Carburator Cleaned). You could have one of many problems.
i probably came across as a dumb***, sorry
no hard feelings

I have a 400ex and I go riding alot in the winter. We ride all over the frozen lakes up here. Mine isn't that hard starting as long as I have it on full choke and normally i keep it out of the wind. The wind chill can get really cold.
