Are the old 86 honda 4wd any good?

 

Yes, very good. Very powerful quads. More powerful than the Foreman 400.

 

So Boner do you have any hands on experience with them or have you driven them before?

 

This is the first 4x4 that I drove. My uncle owns a 93 model like it. The ride rough because of the swing arm front suspension, but the power is is worth the ride. They steer hard too, and they are very heavy. My uncle ounce pulled an Isuzu 2wd truck with it in a pull off(it was, tring, to pulling back). They are also a good bit faster than the Honda 300 4x4s. I still love driving my uncle's even though I own a much more comfortable and powerful quad, Arctic Cat 500.

 

Boner, are you sure that there was a similar model in 93? I don't really know for sure, but I'm pretty confident that they only made that model for a year or two, then made the original Foreman 4x4, then in 88 ditched everything utility other than the 300 2wd & 4wd models and a 200. As far as I know, Honda only offered the 300's or smaller 2wd utility quads (sport quads excluded) from 1988 up until the Foreman 400 was introduced.
As far as the 86 4x4, its ruggedness is its only attribute to newer models. The turning ability and ride quality are extremely poor compared to todays quads.

Wow! Sounds pretty much like the same machine to me. I guess the Canadians are just a little behind the times. Either that or Honda gives them the older stuff. I wonder if they will be introducing the Foreman 400 in Canada when the US gets a first look at the Rubicon!

It is a Canadian model. The dealer sent a 40 foot trailer to Canada and order I think 27 of them. My uncle got the 4th or 5th to last one.

It is blue and it has a headlight system like the other Foremans. It has an oil cooler with fan. Twin shocks front and rear(total of 4) on swing arm suspensions front and rear. The Gas tank is under the seat. Other than the kick starter every thing is pretty normal compared to other quads.

No they just kept making them in canada when Honda stop selling them down here. I guest it is canada's Trx 300.

 

They ATV described above from Canada is the honda 350 4x4. They were made specifically for the colder canadian weather. They were sold CHEAP in canada and not meant to be brought into the US. However the dealers saw a possible money maker buy selling the cheaper quads. I have never ridden one but there is almost always one that is broken down in the atv shop by my house. The shop owner said that they worked great in canada but couldnt take the southern heat.

1999 Honda 300 4x4 Vampires and 2500 lb. winch

 

My uncles has only been back to the dealer twice. Once to trade it in on a Foreman 400, but the dealer told him to keep the 350 because the 400 doesn't have as much power. The 2ed time was to change the tires. Other than that it has NEVER broke anything. He even adjusted the valves him self. He has bent the rim of the wheel ounce when he hit a tree root to fast. He has pulled a trailer with a 15hp Go-Devel and about 200 decoies threw mud over the axle and didn't even get stick. So I don't think you are talking about the same quad.
