Finally getting some more Oregon riders in here. First go pick up a DirtWheels mag, go through the ads and price everything you want for it. Here's a list of some mods I would do
1.Pipe
2.Filter
3.Carb
4.CDI box
5.Cam
6.Valves

Can;t think of anything else. You may just be in luck, for $1000 you can get a package dea on the following from Golden West Cycle( www.goldenwestcycle.com)
Exhaust, K&N Filter, Carb kit, Hi. Comp. piston kit, Cam, Valve spring kit, SplitFire plugs and a T-Shirt. Thats a good start if you ask me

Instead of spending 1500$ to get 37hp out of your un reliable ex motor, take it and sale it, the carb, and electrical for 1500$.....Then take that money, save another 1000$ and buy a yzf 426 motor, carb and electrical. You will need a radiator with shrouds 200$, a pipe 400$, a oil rezzy 150$, and a throttle cable. Adam Sick builds the pipes, rezzies, and motor mounts. With this set up, you get a reliable WATER cooled motor with 52 hp!

Well...I just bought my 400ex about a month and a half ago, and I'm going to be installing some new mods this weekend:

1. K&N Filter w/ outerwears pre-filter ($50 for both)
2. Dynojet Jet Kit ($45)
3. Yoshimura Race Slip-On Pipe ($269 from ATV Addiction...they didn't have the cheaper "comp" pipe, so they gave me the Titanium Race pipe for the price of the "comp&quot

4. PRM Bottom Skid Plate and Baja front bumper ($160 for both)
5. Carbon Fiber Warning Label Covers ($20)
6. Shockwears ($45 for the set)
7. Kenda Gecko paddle tires on aluminum wheels ($170)

SO...you can get alot for not too much money.

And...I'm an Oregon rider too, so if you ever head to the dunes drop me a line. chadhamel@earthlink.net

I did the mods listed below. I bought the Dauncan FatBoy 4 complete pipe, K & N air filter w/ outerwear, and rejetted. I bought it straight from Duncan with shipping and everything included it cost $620.00. HUGE IMPROVEMENT IN JUST THESE MODS. Next replace the carb with the Edelbrock (That's next for me). Finally get the 440 national kit from Duncan. This will cost about $ 1400. Wait a year on that though. Right now replace the carb, pipe and air filter all for around $1000. Good luck.
