For spring break I am going to the sand dunes in florence and my cousin has a 300ex with a fmf power core4 with the spark arrestor and he wants to know if it is too loud to ride there. I know they have a decible limit, but I think he would pass, he thinks he wont.

 

It would help if we knew the limit

The limit is 93dB. I just checked the Oregon Off Higway Vehicle Association's web page www.oohva.org and they have some previous test results of the 300ex with different types of pipes installed. There are a few FMF pipes on there running at about 93 or 94 dB, and some more that are about 100dB. I think as long as your buddy makes sure the packing inside the muffler is in good shape (fairly new) that it will pass. As long as you don't rev your engine around the sound check guy, he'll be too busy testing the guys on Raptors and DS650's.
