The 400Ex was my first quad. It does not have reverse though. Top speed is probably around 60-65 stock. Mine goes around 70. It is very easy to control. You'll be very happy. If you want a faster machine than add some of the mods I have done.

375 dry weight
top speed stock = 65-68
the 400ex is by far the best handeling machine ive ever ridden. especially at high speeds

The 400 is great in the woods!!!!! Shift your hips and you can power slide the rear great. No reverse but if there is a slight upgrade you can coast backwards.

The 400ex is a great woods bike. I went riding with a bunch of guys on 4x4 quads a couple of weeks ago, and I made it through areas that they had to make more than one attempt at. The handling is spot on, and the steering geometry seems to be made for tight and twisty trails. The power is always there when you need it, and the stock tires do great in hardpack, snow, rocks, sand, and just about anything else you can find. It would be a great first bike, or a great bike for an experienced rider.
