Works do not come stock with adjustable compression reservoirs. They have non adjustable and adjustable reservoirs. For shocks with adjustable dampening it would probably be well over $800. It is usually overkill, as most people don't know how to adjust them properly. The reason for having reservoirs at all is to have a larger oil capacity and to keep the oil cool. If you race MX or XC frequently I would definitely get the reservoirs. To see what I mean, just ride your stocker hard and feel how hot the shocks get. Works without reservoirs won't get as hot as the stockers, but the reservoirs help a great deal in keeping them cool. Also, a lot of people mount the reservoirs behind the radiators. In my opinion this is not the best idea(even though most of the Pros do it!) This exposes them to the heat of the radiator and the engine which is not a very big help. Locating them behind the radiator also prevents the reservoirs from getting any cool air to actually do their job of cooling the shock. I would recommend that they be mounted on the front frame rails with as little restriction to the radiator or oil cooler, whichever you have. That way, your shocks won't fade and your cooler will still get enough air to work.

Okay, I see why external dampening adjustments and the cans together are over kill, but what about compression? It seems to me that without some sort of adjustments for the shocks, once you buy them you're married to either the motocross track or trails depending on how they are setup. Is this the case? I ride primarily motocross, but do like to hit the trails with my wife and friends every now and then.

Ooops, I said compression, when I meant preload.

My shocks are preload adjustable. You don't want the threaded pre load though!! The threaded preload screws up the crossovers rings. Those are the spacers between the springs. Basically, mine are adjusted like ZPS shocks, you just lift up the front end push down on the top spring and then move the clip up or down depending on the stiffness you want.
