I have a 2000 400EX. Also just got rid of a 86 TRX "R". I know nothing I can do to the 400 will bring it up to the "R" but what would you guys suggest?

2 ) Cam
3 ) 440 w/ Cam
4 ) w/b rev box
5 )the bigger sprocket on the front
The wife is going to let me spend some of the income tax on it , so I have about 7 or 800 to go out into it. If you have any other ideas please let me know. I want it set for MX style riding. But also I do alot of pit riding so I kind of want best of both worlds. any and all ideas welcomed . Thanks in advance.

 

440 with cam, and rev box, if you have enough $$$ left, get the sprocket too

Since budget is an issue, and assuming your completely stock, i'd go with:
11:1 416 kit ($150)
HRC Cam ($220)
New Valve Springs ($30)
Trail Port Job ($50)
14 Tooth Front Sproket ($20)
Stock Silencer Mod (!Free!)
Stock Headpipe Mod (!Free!)

I wouldn't go bigget on the front sproket, especially for MX, where top speed isn't as important as acceleration. What I recommended comes to about $470. This leaves you with $200-$300 to spend on a set of 18 inch, flat profile tires. Personally, I liked the Nac's Grooved Turf-Tamers, and the Nac's Grooved Front Radials.
