I am looking at trading my 2001 400ex for a 1986 250R. what would I need to look at to make sure I am not getting a lemon? I weigh 220lbs. would the 250 haul me around as well as my 400 does. is it worth it? should I ask for some cash in addition to my quad, say my quad & $1500. any input is welcomed. you can see pix here It has the following: FMF pipe, Wiesco Piston, DG nerfs, DG bumper, DG grab bar EZ clutch lever, Renthal bars.

I would definitly ask for cash too. I see 2001 400ex's for sale for like 4500-5000. I would ask for maybe 2000 or a little more. it depends on the condition of both quads.

From the pics posted, the R shouldn't go for more than $3000. If you want the R, buy it!

That quad is not worth any more than $3K, more like 2,500 - 3,000.

thanx for the input guys. chances are that i will not be getting it because after all it is 16 years old. although it is a classic, that is still pretty old.

You shouldn't be so doubtful. A stock 250R wouldn't be $5000 if it was "just 16 years old". Mine is an 89, and has ran good up until late. Don't be scared. It's a Honda

Hondas are great bikes. But that R looks tired, and beat up from what I can see.

Dont trade your 01' 400 for it. Not unless your going to get about 3 grand cash along with it.

I am not going to trade my 400 for it. I'll be getting a fourstroke for my next bike. Then if I have any money left over I might go out and see if I can find a 88-89 250R that was closer to where i live than this one was.
