Remove your airbox lid, get either an UNI air filter if you ride in dusty conditions, or a K&N if you ride in not so dusty conditions, remove your choke from the carb, re-jet the carb (or buy a jet kit), and maybe get a set of different handlebars (the stock ones are easily bent and don't have that great of a feel to them.)

re-jet re-jet re-jet,, i cant say that enough... remove the airbox lid, buy a d7 plug (stock is d8, the d7 will burn hotter), buy a K&N air filter, a good pipe, or moddify the stock one if you wanna go really cheap, rejet the carb, you can jet WAY past the stock numbers with this set up, i had this same setup with a DG RCM pipe, and i was running a 152 jet, stock they come out with like a 122 or 128. then, after you get some more money, deffinintantly go for tires, the knobbies suck,, i like 20 inch fast trekkers myself, but they wear fast, but they are very cheap, 40 bucks a pop,and they hook up, but still let you slide out of a corner

they are hot enough, but with a hotter one, you can run a bigger jet, meaning more gas to the cylinder, meaning more power.

that is very true, but a bore kit does the same, puts more heat on the cylinder, and they are reliable, unless of course you put a 450 kit into a 300ex. but you have a point,, the biggest reason i went ahead and ran it in my 300ex is because i was gettin ready to install a 352 kit anyway
