Stock top speed is about 65 or 67 mph. With a stock bike you can wheelie in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. With a pipe, you can do high speed low wheelies in 4th and sometimes in 5th gear as well. Just depends on your riding ability. My 400ex is the best riding/handling quad I've ever ridden. I've been on just about every sport quad out there and some 3 wheelers too (I've ridden: ATC 200X, ATC 250R, Tecate, TRX 250R, TRX 300EX, Warrior, Banshee, Blaster, Wolverine, Raptor, Cannibal, DS 650, and of course my latest ride the 400EX.) It's a great bike. I've had mine for a couple months now, and have no regrets.

A 400EX will wheelie in every gear, heck even a 300EX will wheelie in all the gears.

I love my 400EX. With the mods I've done it's even better. I've ridden a raptor and I wasn't impressed overall. Sure it's fast but how many times are you drag racing?? Most of the time you're either in 2nd or 3rd gear for trail riding and hill climbs. Plus it does not handle well at all. I cannot even do a donut without the thing starting to tip.

<< A 400EX will wheelie in every gear, heck even a 300EX will wheelie in all the gears. >>

A 400ex (stock) will wheelie in 3 gears....after that the engine feels very sluggish and the front end stays put. Gotta hand it to the Honda engineers....1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears are perfect for the engine to accelerate to it's full capability.
Also, the 400ex rides rough....the best "riding" sport quad is probably a Polaris or a Banshee (comfy seat). Top speed....roughly mid 60's stock.
Guys, do a search under my old user name...Garyc400ex....you will find I was having problems with my 400ex wanting to (gasp!) 2 wheel in corners.
BTW...The Raptor flops over if I apply too much weight to one side getting on it....hmmm.

I guess some people are just better at wheelies then others.

Are you talking about just punching the throttle and wheeling OR riding a wheelie ?

Also It's all about balance not so much power....
