I'm not positive buy I think ATV Sport magazine said that 460cc is the absolute bigest you would want to go on an air cooled four stroke engine. They might have just been refering to the 400ex engine though. I have heard of people coming close to 50 hp at the rear wheels with a 440 kit and the right mods/engine work.

Dude, they did alot.

If your desperatly wanting 50HP,
sell your 400EX and get a clean Zilla.

53HP at the rear wheels STOCK.
Great suspention, (more travel than the 400EX)
Very stable....
Very reliable if maintained.
Think about it.

The LRD and Curtis Sparks have basically the same mods. I think the only difference is 5 more cc's in the curtis sparks motor and LRD might have bigger valves on their 460. I think that the Curtis Sparks will be more reliable.

I've been waiting about a year and a half for a "Sparks" top end. Good luck!

my 440 is probably putting around 35HP to the ground. (vs. about 25-27 stock)
Dosnt seem like much, but motor wise it is stock other than the ~260$ IMS 440 kit (piston kit and sleeve) and WB-E series pipe. It does make quite a difference, though.
It can slightly pull on STOCK Raptors, where as before it would get trounced.
Up comp hill in Glamis, I raced a few bikes including:

An ATC350X,
Honda 250R,
Honda Pilot 400,
What I believe to be a similar setup as mine but a 416 instead,
I was fastest up the hill racing these bikes, but there was one Zuki LT250R that would
hang right with me, wheel to wheel.
I know that a stock 400EX would only have beat the Pilot.. maybe.

Only if I had my Zilla 500 that day...........

<< 53HP at the rear wheels STOCK. >>

Those are exaggerated numbers for a stock LT500. Where did those numbers come from?
Yep, a Sparks 465 could probably easily make 50 horses......it's all about how much you wanna spend.

I have heard 51-55 RWHP stock (depending on year) from a few different sources including the shop that is currently building up my Zilla motor. (they said 53)

What would your estimate be?

-Matt

edit) my 440 barely... BARELY beats a bone stock raptor.
It has the IMS440 kit w/ 10.3:1 compression, and the WB-E series pipe.
