Future of Honda 400ex?
#22
Jeroboam7, I read your reply and it made me think; I have a car that has water pump, fan, etc and I have never had the urge to "upgrade" to a model T or a VW or Corvair for the sake of simplicity and reliability. But, that's cool I realize my opinion isn't everybody elses opinio. Sorry, no water impeller garkets here.
Yzguy, if a 400ex sells for the price of a 300ex then who is buying the 300ex? Point is, something has to give. You can't keeping making something CHEAPER to COMPETE in the marketplace; that will only get you so far. BTW, I realize the 400ex is getting discounted now but I did mention that the 400ex and Z400 have almost the same LIST price. I agree about what you said Suzuki playing the spoiler and used bikes not being worth diddle...
GTV, I have only heard of bent axles nothing else breaking on the Z. Bear in mind, that there are always people who ride hard enough to bend/break any machine. The motor on the Zis a known quantity and has already proven reliable. The fact is, there is VERY LITTLE difference in reliability among Japanese produced machines.

<< I was actually quite surprised of how well i ran that weekend. Ds's, piped, cdi mod, "carb kitted" raptors were all behind me, and even surprisingly a few Banshees. IM still stock bore and running pump gas... >>
Sure, whatever. the day I see a stock bore 400EX beating any of these machines is the day, well, let that day come and Ill go from there.

Thrshr, look at the EXrider.com forum, there are a few guyes from this site posting there. That is where I read about the overheating and a-arms. Also some guy complaning about gass leaking out of it on his shop floor after it has been sitting.(just what I have read, not seen)
I am not knocking the Z, I want one so bad I cant stand it. What do you guyes think of those a-arms, has anyone seen anything similar to that design.

Wyoduner,
Good point but if they would put a self contained water pump on a bike like a car I guess my opinion might be a little different, having to pull the side case to change a impeller seal kinda angers me when there are simpler ways to do things! But as you said at least we all can have a different opinion.
Say when is a good time to make a trip to Wyoming we are thinking about it but haven't set the date! Its about a 9 hr drive for us and we will just make a long weekend out of it.

Wyoming has a lot of places to ride but if you are from out of state it may be a tricky issue. In WY, it is pretty easy to be street legal so many of the people that ride up in the mountains and such do get registered and put plates on their quads. The thing is, if you are from out of state I don't know what you have to do to be able to ride here. I live here but hardly ride in WY except the dunes at Rock springs and the occasional trip to the grocery store. Mostly I ride in Colorado as far as trails and such.
The best times of the year here start about now until no later than the end of September/Early October but you can get some cold nights and snow still in early fall. Let me know if you do make the trip out this way and maybe I can help out; at least take you to the Sand DUnes at Walden, CO.
