I have a 96 300ex with a DG pipe,12 disk Supertrapp spark arrestor, and two, 2 inch by 1 inch slots cut in the air box. I just installed a 130 main jet and a 140 pilot jet. Can everybody PLEASE tell me the number of turns out you have on the air / pilot screw. I am at two turns out right now, and I am wondering if that is about right. I don't have access to a tach to set it the right way so I am hoping you all can give me a pretty good reference point to go with.
Thanks a lot!!

Not sure this is the direct answer to your question or not but here is what I know. I have a 2002 300ex with Big Gun pipe and K&N filter with no cover and ride at about 9000 ft. I called a local dealer to ask the same question and he told me the stock air setting is 2 1/4 turns. In experimenting with the main jets I have found that 128 at this altitude is spot on with the cover off. When I put the cover back on, it sputters and misses, indicating it is too rich. I also moved the needle jet clip position to the fourth from the top to enrichen things a bit there too. Finally I set the air screw at 2.5 turns out. Pilot jet remains stock.
Even at this very high altitude, my 300 pulls the front end up through 3rd gear and just wants to run away. I am extremely happy with how it performs from stop to flat out although I may drop down a tooth on the front sprocket to add a bit more low end torque and snap for the tight steep hilly trails I am on 98% of the time.
