Has anyone had a chance to line up with any. I got to see a couple down at Horsefalls and was not real impressed. I was just curious if anyone else has saw or lined there 400ex up against one and how did it do. DRZ 400 owners, just seeking the truth about the DRZ 400. We all know that the 400ex is a good dependable bike, I am looking for positive imput on the DRZ400.

Well...you know what he meant. I'm going to be at Sand Lake this Saturday, so if anyone that has a Z400 and can make it, that would be cool. I'd like to see how they compare. All I've seen on here is a bunch of guys saying how great their new quad is, but I've yet to see any proof (in person). I think that alot of the time, the person that wins the drag race is the better rider, and not so much the "faster" quad. I've beat guys on banshees and raptors up the hills, not by a huge distance, but just due to the fact that I was able to use the right gears to get my power to the ground. So...as soon as I get beat by a Z400 in a best 2 out of 3 drag race, then I will believe all the stuff I'm reading. Too much time spent bragging online, and not enough time backing it up on the dunes/trails. That's my $.02

I have spent good seat time on both the ex and the Z, as well as raced them. A race is not a total wax job, but the Z is fast enough to win no matter the ex's skill level (MY OPINION!) I raced my buddies gf on her ex, she's got me beat by almost 60lbs, and is quite good on it, but it didn't matter if I wheelied bad or not, I would win. (BTW this is in a roughly 300 to 400 ft race) I also won the first few without powershifting rather easily.

In the ex's defense, it does feel stronger off the bottom- but thats where the similarities end(MY OPINION!) Also, the ex was REAL hard to get in reverse... (sorry, couldn't help that one!)

Yep...you do have reverse, but reverse is pretty much useless in the sand dunes with a set of paddle tires on. Then all you've got is a 400cc powered hole digger. I thought when I bought my 400ex, that I'd really miss having reverse, but once you get used to it, you just make sure that you position yourself on the trails so that you can get turned around. 9 times out of 10, I don't have to get off of my quad to get turned around in a tight spot. The other 10% of the time, I have to get off the bike, and do it the "old-fashioned" way...but I was raised on 3-wheelers, so the luxury just isn't all that important. We all think that our quads are "The best", and that's great. I'd hate to see guys spending 5-7 grand on a bike that they didn't like. So, ride whatever you've got and have fun. And if you get beat by a "lesser quad".....it's not such a big deal....If you get mad, then you've gotta find a different hobby. Pretty soon, we're going to have to rope off sections of the parking lots at ride areas, so that there isn't any mixing of different brands of bikes. And then rope them off in smaller sections for Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota....etc...I'm sure that everyone on here has more important things to worry about....like how much the new set of tires is going to cost.

i rode mine this weekend at coos bay, it has alot more power than my stock 400ex but it a different power. the ex has alot more low end, where the Z has great pull in the mid range on up. it like to be reved up and not lugged. if you shift to soon it will lug and want you to give it more gas but it pulls nice and hard in the midrange which is nice, i could climb most of the hills like razorback in 3rd where i would have to use 2nd mostly on the ex. they both handle similar but the Z bottoms out in the back alot, but i havent adjusted the back shock yet. i got a little bit of air but ive only been rideing 1 month so im no expert and wont be getting big air...unless its on accident . i like it the only thing i would like is a little more low end cause i dont like to race and mostly like to ride at a good pace and have fun and not get killed or hurt lol. reverse is also nice to have.

man if you think that is a revver you should try a mojave that things power comes on at like 6000 or 5500 it has very high compression like 11.6-1 so it wants to stall at anything lower than 2000
i got on the z and thought it was all tourqe compared to the mojave
the back shock is a lil to much spring
if you ajust it it helps alot
i love it and would have it but i am a kawasaki man ya know

Cmon- resistance is futile- Kawasaki is no more- just look at them as the same company-
