I have only had an ATV since 1997. If anyone can enlighten me on the history of when the first ATV's came out (the three wheelers and then the quads), I would appreciate it. I vaguely remember the three wheeler lawsuits (a family member is a product liability lawyer), but were quads very common before that?

I think the first three-wheeled ATV was Honda's ATC90 that was offered around 1970-71?? I recall seeing one in the James Bond film "Diamonds Are Forever", which was released in 1971. As for four-wheeled ATV's, I believe Suzuki offered the first one in 1983, unless you count Honda's Odyssey, which was first sold in 1976.
