i have a 400ex and the decompression device on the cam is causing the exhaust valve to stay open. does anyone know what would happen if i removed it? does anyone else have this problem?

Most everyone removes the decompressor when installing a new cam. It won't hurt a thing.

I don't believe it will hurt anything, but it will put a bit more stress on the starter motor. All that devide does is releases the cylinder compression for the first few strokes just to make it spin up to speed faster.
