K&N Filters
#3
The latest Dirt Wheels magazine had an article on air filter cleaning. They said not to use gas to clean the gunk off the filter. They explained that gas breaks down the foam. Is this true? Gas is easier and cheaper than specialized filter cleaners.

DO NOT BLOW AIR IN A AIR FILTER !!! The fastest way to put a hole in the material(foam, paper, etc.) is to use compressed air. The K & N kit spoken of earlier has all the directions for proper cleaning. And when you wash it out with the recomended solution, let it dry out completely. This means for several hours or even overnight. Don't wash it out and expect to use in an hour. Use the oil liberally on the cleaned filter, and you can even touch it up between washes. It will be the last air filter you will have to buy for your machine.

K&N filters are as good as they come. They are made from surgical grade cotton gause. Compressed air will blow holes in the fibers, drying in direct sunlight or high heat sources can shrink filter media. Use their recharge kit it works great. Soak with cleaner for 5-10 minutes then rinse with warm water do not use high pressure water, only faucet pressure. When clean the filter media will be white, then you spray the from OUTSIDE only the K&N oil to obtain a uniform pink to red tinted film of oil all around the media. Let sit for a few minutes and run it again. Do not clean it too often, it works better with a 1/8" of dirt than a brand new foam filter according to K&N.

that is according to k&n but i have seen a new k&n filter with the correct oil job pass fine dust particles that will cause a motor much harm. Use a properly oiled uni filter for the job and them pull it off stick your hand inside the air boot going from your filter to your carb and you will only come up with a clean hand
