Hi, I jsut got a 2000 Kaw Mojave, and a 1998 300ex for $2300, quite a deal. But the Mojave doesn't run. I just need some advise on the 300, I mean what are common things that I need to look after. Do you guys think I got a good deal. Also I'm very dissappointed in the power of the 300ex I'm use to riding a ported/piped/milled head Trail Blazer, I figued the 300ex would walk the dog on it I guess I'm use to the ZIP of a 2 stroke. What should be my first mod. Also any ideas on the Mojave, the guy I got it from said he and his son were riding, and it quit? and hasn't ran since. I got it home and check the basics spark compression turn over fues yeah their all good. so I tryed to kick start it and it was way too hard, my dad decided to pull start it, and the motor froze, sorry to bring up a Kawasaki subject in a Honda Forum.

if you want to find out whats wrong with your mo, ask "knowsitall" in the kawi section, that sounds really wierd, the mo is a really dependable machine..and for your 300 start off with a rejetting and pipe for 4 stokes you can feel a big difference, or you could just buy a engine kit 330 or 400 whatever and hang with the banshees

I dont know about 330 or 400 holding its own against a 'shee, depends on what kind of shee you are talking about!!!
Look at a jet kit, pipe, K & N , mild cam, piston. Im sure you would see a nice increase in that, if you arent happy with that I would probably suggest selling the 300 and putting that money toward a used 400ex, that sounds more apt to you anyhow!

It's already been piped, Wiseco piston. it has a FMF Power Core IV SA, and I think the guy before me didn't know what he was doing. He just threw a pipe on without rejetting. It shoud have better performance than it does now, it isn't possible to pull the front end up in 2nd gear, and I know how to ride. I think if I put a K&N and pull the carb, clean it and rejet it will make a world difference. It's like it's running rich, probably the case, what jets would you reccomend? usually I get a bunch of jets and spend a whole day finding what works best, it would make it easier just to run change jets a couple of times.

Wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start on jetting that 300 to be honest with ya. It took me a month to get the blaster jetting right so there is no way i can offer advice to someone else!!! Im sure that someone on here can help you though. But.... I would start by putting in a fresh plug, running it and doing a plug chop. Have a look at it and then go from there as to which direction you need to go. I trust that method better than the " it feels like its rich " or "it sounds like its a little lean " but then again thats just me.

I noticed that my carb had an aftermarket choke lever, and was longer than stock, it was hitting on the starter, so was not getting fully opened (was running with choke on). So I got a dremal in there and cut it off enough to clear the starter, now it gets the choke fully off. lots of power, wheelies in 2nd easily. I'm not really looking at a 400ex, I can live with the handling of the 300ex I think it's a keeper.
