Check on the Rubicon's speed before you buy one. I never raced one, but a dealer told me my 450S was faster due to the auto tranny on the Rubicon sucking up so much power unless you don't like shifting. I haven't verified this is true with any other source.

The tranny is sealed. There are no breathers for it like a belt. The only way water can get in is for you to sink your quad. I have sunk mine big time and no problems.
The Rubicon is faster on the drag strip than a 450. Any day.

I don't know why a dealer would tell you a 450 is faster than a Rubicon. I have several friends with 2001 and 2002 SP 500 HO's and I can out run half of them and the other half can out run me. We are only talking a few feet in a drag race. If you get water in the engine oil, it will end up in the trans. Otherwise, no water will ever enter the trans. The trans in the Rubicon is like 95% efficient, more than the style in automobiles and more than a belt drive.

Not to be a pest, but are you guys comparing a Rubicon with a 2002 or newer 450S. My 2002 has 2wd selectable and I know for a fact that it is noticeably faster than an earlier 450 without 2wd option. The ruby should obviously have more power with a bigger engine and liquid cooling, but the 450 trans and 2wd should provide less drag. Just a thought.
