I don't know about ya'll but I don't like that big plastic thing that covers your handlebars on a 300ex. I want to take mine off and put some new bars on mine. what do ya'll think of the O'neal aluminum bars? anyways I know lots of people have taken this peice off but I was wondering where they put their ignition? anyone who has done this please tell my what they did with it. thanks

I am getting renthal handle bars for my Y2k300EX. I bought a red plastic ignition holder for a 88 250X. They are smaller and allow the use for new handle bars. It bolts right on. The red is not exactly the same but it will look the same when covered with mud. hehe. It was $16. Hope this helps.

I have a 91 250X with renthal bars. I bought it this way so I am not sure if the ignition comes stock like on mine or not. But it is on the left of my machine. I guess by where your 300EX sticker would be. Not sure if they made mine like that or if the dude I bought it from did it?

If you have a 91 250X it wasn't stock like that. The guy that owned it before you did it. That year they were just like the 300EX is now. Just to let you know.

all you have to do is get a good durable piece of black plastic, big enough to go over the bolts that hold your handlebars in place. Then make a hole in the middle big enough for the key and... Viola!! its not to hard, but explaining it is. It looks good, my friend did it when he scraped up his EX when he rolled it and that big plastic piece got scraped so he took it off. i like it with it off too...

i taped my ignition to the "helmet holder" and it works good but i like the idea about drilling a hole in the plastic and putting in there.

Well, I personally suggest to go with the renthals. too many people have renthals for them not to work. For shocks, you have made a wise choice. But, it won't work if you ankle is broken. haha.

Ask your local Honda dealer. I bought a red plastic ignition holder for a 88 250X. They are smaller and allow the use for new handle bars. It bolts right on. The red is not exactly the same but it will look the same when covered with mud. hehe. The fit is a little tight but it fits with the handle bars. It was $16. Hope this helps.
