i have a few questions on the old HOnda 250r's. im not in the market to purchase one but am a little intrested. just for comparrison how much were they when they were being produced and what was the difference between the R engine and a cr 250 engine. i know these are pointless questions but i was just curious.

i believe that the 86 r ws gong for around 3k when it was introduced.. as far as teh difference between the r and cr motor the only differences im aware of are teh compression ratio and carburationim sure there are more that im unaware of though

Biggest improvement in my mind, Powervalve.

I think the biggest difference was that the atv/atc motors were counterbalanced, while the cr's were not.

They where $2800, the biggest difference between the cr and trx engine as the porting, counter balancer and carb. TRX engine was designed to have more lowend grunt. Around late 86 I think the CR got a power valve. That changed everything, now the trx and cr engine where miles apart.

81-84 250r/cr engines were aircooled, and they were gutless compared to water cooled. 85 came water cooled. ATC had counterbalancer and six speed. CR had a very cheezy powervalve, better ports, thinner head gasket (more compression), different head chamber angle, 5-speed. 86 CR had a different style of powervalve. 87 the powervavle changed again until 90. 87-up 250r's had a different rod length.
