Here's some info on the Gas Gas quads.
630cc 4 stroke, Vertimati engine
450cc 4 stroke, Yamaha YZ426 engine
250cc 2 stroke, Rotax engine
297cc 2 stroke
560cc 2 stroke KTM engine (65 HP!!)

 

The TRX650EX isn't what most think.

Someone made the statement that "Honda will release something that is totally expected,...but unexpected."

There is a TRX650EX....BUT it isn't based off of the Liquid cooled, kick start XR650R engine.

There is one in R&D, but the one being released this fall is based off of the aircooled, electric start XR650L engine.

Where are you getting your information? If I remeber correctly, the air cooled 650 motor puts out more torque but less hp than the liquid cooled version.

Moose is not saying that Honda's are bad. They are obviously gutless. The 400ex puts out 26 +/- HP stock... that sucks! Those top contenders are nicely built EX's. I mean what do you expect. Suzuki's LT's didn't handle, and Kawi (haha, thats to easy), so pretty much the R and EX was all that was available for a while. So yeah, there's plenty out there and plenty of parts to make them haul ***, but sorry to say boys, Cannondale, Suzuki, and the other companies futures are makin Honda's future bleak. Do you think the 400ex would be such a top contender if the LTZ400 and Cannondale were released at the same time as the 400ex? Trust me, it wouldn't be near as popular as it is. Moose isn't talkin about MX ready EX's and R's. Honda's stock quads are weak! They're weak because Honda doesn't want to get blamed for an idiot that hurts himself.

I hate to sound rude, but thats the way it is.

As far as modded quads go... hell yeah, you can make the EX and R's HAUL ***! No doubt.

When & if Honda gets off their butts & builds a big bore quad I'm sure it'll be a good one.
I want big bore, water cooled, electric start, Reverse, Lots of power, 250R Handeling, Honda ergonomics & dependability. It'll make all others obsolete.
BUT THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT FIRST!!!!

If and when Honda does come out with a 650ex or 750ex I will be selling my raptor the next day. I've always rode Honda's, but they just don't have anything with the power I want right now so I went with the Raptor. I hope they do come out with something because there falling way behind.

 

As long as the 400EX is the top selling quad Honda has no reason to build a new quad.
Honda relies on people to mod and race their quad and are to this day dominating every form of quad racing the enter.
Yes the EX is slow off the floor but if it is as bad a people say whay is it the dominant force in the Gncc pro-production class? the same can be asked for every MX track?
I would love honda to offer a new quad but I doubt they will until sales drop off enough to warrant it.
As for a 2 stroke Gas Gas is comeing out (well they have been for 3 years now and I have never seen one) but Honda wil never.

 

well said!! i don't think many people here can hold a 400EX wide open for more than 5 seconds on a MX track, so it has all the power it needs. the only area it's not good for (stock anyways) is in the dunes. give me a 400EX on the track or in the woods and i'll be all over your a$$. it's a fact, face it.

If the rumored new Honda machine is powered by an XR650L-derived engine, would you still get rid of your Raptor for it? I sure as hell won't jump on that band wagon...
