Just got my '03 400ex today, I love the smell of a fresh engine break in!! I was curious to know how long you guys go to get 'er broken in, then ride harder. I been taking it easy with it today, generally i stick to 20 hours, but I bet it breaks in a lot faster than that. In the manual honda says take it easy for the first 15 miles, then you can do whatever you'd like. Whats your opinion?

A good rule of thumb that I go by is nothing over half throtle for the first 3 tanks of gas, then change the oil, adjust the valves and then ride it like ya stole it.

I just got back from riding a few hours. I got about 4 hours on it so far and im not even through a half tank of gas! The torture

I been taking it real easy with it, making sure everythings ok. I'll let it slowly rev a bit, short shift, all that good stuff. 3 tanks of gas is gonna take me a month!

There's just a lil bit difference from my 99' to my 03'. The clutch on the 03' is set up for quick shifts, it catches towards the end. The bike itself is so quiet, im waiting for it to kick in and get louder lol. Im gonna need to put something on there a little louder like the white bro's pipe. When im riding down the railroad tracks I cant hear it at all.

I cant wait till it breaks in!
