Another important 84 Big Red Question
#1
I have been asking around about one problem that I see with the 200se I am about to buy. The rear axle is either bent or been welded, I noticed when I test drove it that it acted like it wanted to start shimmying on one side as i sped up. I had a couple suggestions given to me already but i want to ask around to get all the info I can on what to look for. If it has been welded where is the best place to find another Axle to replace it? Can I use an xle from another model year??? Thanks in advance...

Look for a bent axle, an "overly done" welded axle causing an un-balance, an inner tube in one tire and not the other, improper air pressure in one tire over the other, and bad bearings on either the axle or swingarm pivot.
Also, don't forget about the possibility of a bent front fork. This can make you think the problem is in the rearend. Same goes for a bent frame.
No aftermarket axles are availble for these. you would have to purchase it from your honda dealer. price will depend on the dealer. Make a few calls for prices before buying this three wheeler and see if you can get the current owner to knock off that price from what he is asking for it.
The only other axle that will fit your ATC is the axle from a 1984 TRX200.
The 1984 200 BigRed and TRX200 were the ONLY two machines that had that type of rearend. They are unique and interchange with nothing. 1984 model year only.

Thanks man, also I noticed the problem before i put a down payment on it but they were only asking 300.00 and it runs good besides that p[roblem... good rubber etc... figured it would be some cheap fun that I could fix up over time... I appreciate your suggestions and will definitly check things out today. Nice to have someone who "knowsalot" when it comes to these things. Take care and Thanks!!!
