If you have the fuel tank filled up when you leave you will be able to ride all most all day long before you hit reserve. I would think you will get tired of riding before you run out of gas.

TRX350dude,
its cool that your 2wd will run those tires so well, but put them on a 4wd and it will get through more everytime.

ive had my 4wd rancher es running for over 4 hours out on the trails and i dont remember how much was left, but i had not hit reserve. gas mileage is not a concern on this purchase, period.

Hey Cheko...i see you're from Torbay, so you're probably gonna be riding the same terrain as me....get the 4x4....when the time comes that you do need it, you will have it...and you can do a LOT of going on a tank of gas....it doesn't burn enough gas for it to be a concern....also, in case you didn't know, the "Rancher" in Newfoundland has the digital display on both the S and ES models....i have the S model only because i was concerned over the ES being an electrical nightmare...but my buddies who have the ES have had zero problems as far as I know...the rancher is a great bike, you'll enjoy it.

I'm from St.John's as well, and 4x4 is definantly the way to go. It'll get you out of more spots than 2x4 ever will. For the best of both worlds install a Warn 424 Kit, then you can choose 2x4 or 4x4. I just installed one on my forman 450. Don't forget to buy a winch too, definantly the best investment I made yet. I can get about 150 km on a tank on my forman, I imagine the rancher would be better again.

Hi guys and gals. I'm just now getting into the 4x4 experience and after reading all the specs, I'm totally confused. I've been told by some that the 4x4 ES Rancher is all I'll ever need. I read where most Quads like the Grizzley and Praire are almost the same size but the weight is 65 lbs more. Is there a disadvantage with the extra weight and an advantage with the larger engine or will the Rancher go everywhere this old guy wants to go. The Key is wants to go. LOL. I would appreciate any input before I put out more money than I need to. Thanks

A week ago today I bought the 03' 450S $8599 Cdn out the door. A month ago my buddy bought a 02' Rancher 4x4 and we go out together. The only difference that I can find is that I have a bit more tourque that helps in the really rough stuff. Both are great machines, mine has the Traxlok and I find that it is really really nice to be able to switch back and forth. It's the best of both worlds. I dont' find the extra weight to be a problem. Whatever you buy, buy Honda!

BTW I'm in Nova Scotia. Come on Snow....

Thanks, Cayman. It has taken me awhile to respond because my MAC refused to let me back on. Had to switch to a PC. I have bought the Rancher 4x4 ES and will be going out for a three day break in in the Mojave desert in the morning. Anybody know where I can purchase the Warn 2400 on line?

You know, maybe if I got the product right, I'd get a response. I should have said Warn 424 instead of 2400. Another senior moment, no doubt. Anyone know where to buy one on line for a decent price? Thanks
