What type of oil and oil filters do you guys use on your Rubicons? I just got mine, 2003 and she's a beauty. Time for the first oil change and was just wondering what some of you other guys use.

for my first (5 hour) oil change I used Honda oil and filter, my next change at 20 hours I will probably use just a good quality sythetic blend. Make certain you look in the owners manual as they are very specific about what you can and cannot use.

I use Honda oil and filters. If you buy it by the case or gallon is cheaper.

thanks guys! Good luck with all of your bikes. Do any of you have aftermarket tires? Do they affect the power of the Rubi?

It really depends on what kind of tires you are looking for. Visit my site at http://www.ansley.net for some pics of mine.

It seems like I read somewhere that Honda doesn't recommend using a synthetic oil in the Rubicon. Not sure if it was the owners manual, or the service manual, but I'm pretty sure it was one of those "official" publications.

I wasnt sure either so i ask my local dealer and they said it was ok.
I figured if they are wrong they'll have to fix it.1 more reason for extended warranty.

The guys that I know that ride Rubi's use regular Pensoil 10w-40 and honda filters. As far as filters are concerned, I think they are all pretty much the same. Even though they may have diff. brand names most filters are all made in the same factory believe it or not!

Synthetics, because of the consistancy and high temp stability, make more sense in the Rubicon than any other bike made because of the high temp/load put on the oil from both the engine and transmission pump....Honda doesn't say anything negative about synthetics.
Something to consider when dealing with filters. They may be made in the same facility but each manufacturer has their own standards required for their products and there are some companies that use some pretty flakey filtering specs. I'd recommend sticking with the factory filters knowing Honda's specs are pretty stringent.
