I was wondering what quad is better if I plan to jump, wheelie, ride in feilds, and go up hillclimbs a little. I don't plan to race. Also what one is faster in the top end.

 

cate is alittle faster on top end but not by much. for everything else the r is better.

The tecate is an absolute animal, especially if built. They had around 40 horses stock, mine was around 50. They can be squirrely at high speed though and have a very peaky powerband. I would agree that a 250R would be a better choice for most applications, but in all out speed it's not close. The tecate was quite a bit faster. Another drawback to the tecate is availability of parts. That's why I sold mine (though I wish I still had it).

 

Ahhh, The old tecate, The red headed step child nobody likes or will admit to being related to.

 

The tecate 4 was the fastest production 250 2stroke quad ever made. The tecate are not bad bikes but are hard to find and hard to find parts for. The R is still one of the ost wanted quads every made. According to a older atv action the tecate went 75 and the R went 72. I have seen just a couple tecate 4's i raced one with a l.a. sleeve 300 kit in it and holy shiz it was fast. But overall the R is a better bike
