Default 400 ex more power

A buddy of mine has a couple of 400 ex's and totally loves them. He also has a Raptor but has had quite a few problems with it . He is totally sold on Honda and just wishes it had a little more power. He already has a Yoshi header and Pipe with a K&N filter. What else can be done? I've seen 440 kits for 219.00 but wonder how good they are since that sounds a little cheap. I've also heard of a more aggresive cam does a good job. What are some of your suggestions. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've had really good luck with Thumper Racing's 440 kits. He also sells a Honda race cam that is a direct replacement of your cam, no valve springs or hardening the rocker arms or BS like that. In 3 years, no problem with reliability yet, and revs real quick and makes great power also at a good price too. give them a call 1-903-938-0570 or check them out at www.thumper-racing.net

Try a 13.5:1 high compression piston and an after market cam, both are not really expensive, and gave my 400 alot of SMOOTH useable power even with the factory bore

Try a Fullbore 440 kit, I couldn't believe the difference it made for me. Also my 440 is on alcohol which made a big difference too, before it was on alcohol I could only run a few races at a time before I had to let it cool down an hour now it doesn't matter how many I run at a time.

If you ask me, the Z400 isnt that much faster than the 400ex, both being stock anyhew.

If you want to go to a 13:1 piston, from JE, you would be looking at over $200 just for the piston, not including gaskets. I'm still stock bore, only 10.5:1 and a few other goodies, and im beating pipes raptors, banshees out in the dunes.

Stock bore 400ex beating piped Raptors and Banshees? 1st one I've ever hear of. You must have great ability. So what all did you do to you EX to achieve mid-40hp, with out boring?
