400EX Owners, What shape did you cut your fenders?

Looking to cut my 400EX fenders down but I don't want to shave them completely off. I like Wes Millers fenders in Huevos II, but its hard to tell where exactly they are cut off. Just curious to see how much everyone cut off and in what shape or pattern they did it. Thanks for the ideas!

Well, if he cuts the fenders, and ruins them, he can just buy the aftermarket ones you mentioned. However, if he's successful in cutting his fenders, he's not out any money.

I'd go with an original shape, like FLAMES!! Haha!

take a jigsaw and follow the outside edge of the fender with the outside of the jigsaw base. Cut a straight line and DO NOT cut around the front edge or the back edge. I start from the back and lead to the front. The edge at the back and the front should now be points, not rounded like the factory. This should have taken about 1 to 1,5" off the outer edge. Look at it and then repeat process again, cutting another 1 to 1.5" off. keep repeating until you are happy with the look. I cut twice because I still wanted some fender there. It still follows the factory lines when you follow the factory edge. Then take a beltsander and round the front and rear edges and try to make them even. After that, take 100 grit and then 400 grit paper and sand smooth. Then take a heat gun or torch and heat the edge to a nice finish.

By the way, the race front has no headlight provision. I have both sets of Maier front plastic.
