Default Rancher Mods Question

I have a 2002 Rancher 4X4 S and am going to put a IDS2 exhaust, as well as the K&N Power Kit on it. I am looking at getting the ITP C-Series wheels and either the ITP 589 M/S or Titan 589 M/T tires. My question is should I go with 25 or 26 inch tires? If I go with the 26" tires will I be able to feel the added power of the mods or will it even out and perform close to stock?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have read just about every tire thread that I can find and can't get a clear decision on how the 1" size difference will affect the performance.

Default Rancher Mods Question

We put 589MT 25's on our Rancher, and the height turned out to be the exact same as the OEM 24's on the stock rims. I would think that 26's might fit just as well.

Default Rancher Mods Question

I'm running 25x8x12 dirt devils on my Rancher, I tried running 25x10x12's on the back and immediately noticed a power loss, I then switched to 25x8x12's all the way around. The dirt devils seem to be a wider tire, the 25x8x12's are actually wider than the the stock rear 24x10x11's. I don't think its the the size difference so much as it is the weight gain in the larger tire. I'm also running the c-series rims and I think think the lighter weight of the rim and the slightly larger tire just about even out to the stock wheel weight. One more thing , you'll need a 1" spacer in the back if you run all four tires the same size if you want both axles to be to the same width.

Default Rancher Mods Question

I am leaning towards ITP 589's 25 8x12 on the front and 25 10x12 on the rear mounted on some aluminum rims. I assume I will not need a spacer with this setup right?

4x4RancherESR, I see you have some of the same mods that I planning on doing, how big a difference in performance is it from when it was stock?

Thanks

Default Rancher Mods Question

I have learned that the size stamped on the side of the tire, is only an approximation of the acual size!! I use to have Blackwater 25" on the 2X4 and 26" on the 4X4, and frankly, they were essentially the same tire. I would go with the 25" just in case. A real 26" is a lot of tire for the little Rancher!!! See my post on the ITP Holeshot ATR tires, in the tires section of the forum. I really like these tires!!

Default Rancher Mods Question

With the wider tires (25x10x12's) its pretty close ,but if you stand behind the machine with the wheels in a straight line you can still see a small difference in the width, that will have to be left up to your personal prefference. You'll notice a difference with either the pipe or the jet kit,but you'll be really impressed when you combine the two. The pipe seemed to add more torq, and the power kit added to that as well as giving it a snappier throttle response, with more useable power at the top of each gear.I am now climbing hills in fourth gear that I used to climb in third. Riding on an uphill dirt road behind a stock rancher that was topped out in 5th gear,I was able to catch him with enough left in 4th to pass and still having 5th gear left. You'll never get past that 52 mph top speed ,but you can get from 0 to 52 alot quicker. I don't know what kind of riding your setting your machine up for--trail riding or bogging--if your going for speed stay away from the 25x10x12's if your into the mud bogging then it shouldnt matter . My machine is set up for highspeed trail riding, soon to be equipped with Works Performance shocks to smooth out the trail , I'm not an expert on this but this is what I've seen with my machine compared to by two buddies stock Ranchers. Hope this helps

PS I really like these Dirt Devils and cant say enough good things about them.

Default Rancher Mods Question

I have 26" ITP 589's on ITP chrome/black steel wheels and I didn't notice a lot of loss but there was some. They do not rub anywhere on the quad. The front's are 26x9x12 and the rear's are 26x12x12's. I did add an unlocker though which might have helped for power due to the engine not having to turn the front tires all the time.

Default Rancher Mods Question

I really want to go with 26" tires, but I don't want to put a huge strain on the Rancher. Do you guys think with a pipe and a power kit that the Rancher would perform well with 26" ITP 589's? I ride mostly on tight trails in the woods with about 50% mud, so top end speed is not that crucial, just want to make sure that it will be able to spin those size tires in the mud.

Also, what pipe should I get? I am leaning toward a IDS2 Supertrapp. Thanks for all of your help.

Default Rancher Mods Question

4x4RancherESR, Just wondering overall after installing the Megamax Exhaust and K&N Power Kit how difficult was it to adjust the jets and the carb. Just curious because I am looking at buying the same pipe and K&N kit as you have?

Default Rancher Mods Question

The whole installation of the jet kit was'nt hard and only took about 30 minutes, the instructions with the kit are'nt the greatest but if you do what they say the quad will fire right up and you can adjust the idle from there. Heres just one tip don't forget to shut your fuel valve off before you take the carb off of the intake or you'll have a puddle of gas when you open the carb up. I just went with the jet and fuel screw settings recommended in the kit and its worked just fine , I havent had to make any other adjustments. If you do want to change the jet you will have to basically do the entire installation process over.
