WHAT PROTECTIVE GEAR DO YOU GUYS WEAR WHEN RIDING YOUR QUAD?
#1
Is it really necessary to have a chest protector when you mostly ride dunes?
Do you really need a chest protector when riding quads ( I keep hearing only wear one when riding bikes)?
I figure the elbow, knee, and shin guards would be good.
But realistically what do you were when you go riding?

I don't ride dunes, but will tell you what I ride with.
Helmet, goggles, boots, jersey, pants, and gloves.
I don't wear chest protectors.......In fact none of the guys I ride and race with wear them..........until I got the Red Bull
Seriously, a chest protectors job is to protect you from debris being thrown from the tires from the rider in front of you and not neccessarily for protection in case of a crash.....although it would help.

I mostly dune.
Wear helmet, goggles, gloves, jersey, pants, boots, knee pads. Sometimes when it's really hot, I wear short sleeves.
I never have worn chest protector, not that I'm against them, just don't wear them.
Chest protectors don't do much for sand roosts anyway!

When I am going to really go through the woods or fast on the open areas I wear helmet, goggles, goat skin gloves and tall riding boots.
If I am just going to a certain area on the property or viewing the scenery I wear no protection.

Ramg66,
I have been riding for 30 plus years and just to go out to the mail box or to pick a persimmon to eat I am not suiting up. If it does somehow land on my chest I will be in dirtbike and quad heaven.
See ya there.

I am probably a little worse than that Chet. I will wear my steel-toe boots, helmet, and goggles if I'm going into an area I don't like, riding alone, riding with large groups, new areas, etc. But if I'm going out with a few friends in an area I've ridden to death and most of it is "dirt highway" all I'll wear is eye protection and steel-toes, even worse if I'm going over to the neighbors then its just street clothes.

A chest protector probably wouldn't be a bad thing to wear. My buddy went over the bars with a chest protector on and caught the end of the bars in the chest on the way over. If he hadn't been wearing one, he probably would have been hurt pretty bad. I think it should be up to personal prefernce, if you feel comfortable wearing one, wear it but don't complain when you get hurt worse than you would have if you had it on.

OOps, I found a PIC of me without a helmet.
Its just a little jump in our woods and I was going to the mail box right after this.
Picture of Chet going to the mailbox without helmet.
