Seen the picture perfect place today.

You know how in television commercials they always seem to be able to find that picture perfect place to put the quads, trucks, or cars in the ads. I would say most of those are redone eith computers or something. Anyways, back to my point. I pulled my quad up on the edge of the road facing over a straight up and down 75 foot cliff, the sky was that right shade of blue, with a couple of small white fluffy clouds. The road in the seen was a bit sandy with rocks on it, all smooth and nice. Trees of all shapes and sizes in the background. Then I got to looking around a little better and got madder than hell at what I seen. Out in the middle of nowhere, I found numerous pop cans and bottles, all kinds of garbage. Over the cliff I spotted two big garbage piles of old appliances, lawn mower frames, roofing materials, and most anything you can think of. Then the killer was you could see where part of the forest had been burnt where someone tried to burn the garbage. Ignorant people kill me, throwing garbage here and there just ruining the landscape. No wonder they want to close all of the trails down. Its not because we are destroying the earth by tearing it up with the tires, its all this damn garbage. Almost everytime I go riding I come out with more than I went in with trying to clean up our trails. Then people just take advantage of the fact and keep on throwing their garbage down because they know others like me will be through to clean it up later. I am just mad right now, so you'll have to excuse the bitching.

Your post is a sore point of mine also. As a land owner, I have a spring and fall ritual of going along the roadside of my property and picking up the accumulated trash. It's not too bad, but it shouldn't be at all.
No matter what your activity is: ATV riding, hiking, boating, you should not only tread lightly, but always carry out exactly what you came in with. And it's not that hard to do either. That's what kills me.
Just a shame that the actions of a few effect the enjoyment of the masses. But the fines in most states for littering are a joke. Stiffer fines and more enforcement may be benificial. Who knows! Just my two cents...

For the most part, the trail riders in our area are pretty 'clean'. We'll see a can or wrapper every once in a while. However, when we're exploring a new trail, we always know when we're about to break out to a larger road. Why? The trash of course. It seems that as soom as a road is capable of having a car or pickup on it some cretin has to use the nearest cliffside as a dump.
Don't know of any solutions, like I said above - the trail riders are not at fault. All we can do is keep setting a good example on the remote trails. Pack it in, Pack it out.

I know ecxactlly what your talking about we have a place that is perfect it was an old sand mining company like a qaurry when the qaurry closed down the company clean it all up and made it look buetiful. know U go up there and there is junk cars appliances furniture even a tractor. My dad lived by this qaurry al his life and had permission to go in the sand mines (as we call it) we have to carry a peice of paper and a have a signed document every time we go up there because the police will come. I am tired of going places and seeing nothing but trash even going down the highway all U see is junk. we bought 67 acres of land and there is a huge trash dump on it my cousin owns dumpster service so we took 8 dumpsters of trash out and still aren't done. american's need to be a little clener not just atver's everyone in other country's if U are caught dumping trash U get fined 10,000 dollars I totally agree with U
