The problem with oil selection for your Foreman isn't so much for the engine as it is for the clutches. I personally don't use Honda's oil in my ATV's but I'm still careful on what I put in. I'm not sure I would have gone with the 5w30, it has friction modifiers in it to help an auto engine get better fuel economy. These friction modifiers are an additive that are designed to bond to the internal parts of an engine to fill in the very small imperfections in the metal surface. The problem for you is that your clutch is now exposed to those friction modifiers and may change how your clutch grabs which could lead to premature failure.

The simple way to see if it has friction modifiers is to look at the back of the bottle of oil.
See the circle where it says API service if it has energy conserving in the bottom have of the circle it has friction modifiers.
Quads don't like friction modifiers. I am not saying you couldn't get away using it but I would change my oil more often than normal if I used an oil that had modifiers in it.
Right now I am using BP/Amoco 10w40 with no modifiers.

Unless you enjoy replacing clutches don't use anything but ATV & Motorcycle specific oils.
Friction modifiers while good for cars it'll ruin your clutches & could leave you stranded.
Most all oils are made for cars, since they make so much more of it it costs less. ATV & motorcycle oils make up a very small percentage of oils so they cost more.
It never ceases to amaze me that people spend thousands of $$$ on a quad thousands more modifying it & b!tch about paying $2 for a quart of oil!!
Buy the good stuff, change oil & filters on the factory recomended schedual & your investment will pay off in the long run!

I use Mobil Delvac 1 5w40. It's a full synthetic unlike any of the Honda oils available. Mobil does make another Synthetic which is specifically made for Cycles and ATV's if you you don't feel comfortable with an automotive type oil, it's called MX4T, it's a 10w40 and is recomended for wet clutch applications. The mobil 1 V Twin also meets similar specs as the MX4T but comes in a 20w50, a little heavy for cold weather applications. By the way, Mobil makes Hondas cycle oils.
