Default 650 R quad VS. Raptor

MichaelAZ ended racing a 650R equiped 400 ex this weekend at glamis. We thought the 400 maybe had a 440 kit or something,as he as sticking pretty close to MichaelAZ's 686 Raptor. After talking to him, we find out its a 650 thumpoer motor in a 400ex frame. Knowing that, we werent really impressed anymore. Nice, clean install though.

RoostKing,

Do you know who was it riding the 650r?

They must have had excess cash funds to transplant a 650 into the 400 frame.

Maybe that is the reason that Honda has pushed back the intro of the 650EX for so long-- because they know that it isn't competitive with the Raptor...

Chet,
I dont understand your question. It wouldnt cost that much money to transplant that motor into a quad frame.

I dont know what kind of motor mods it had, but it was piped and had a very throaty sound to it. It was water cooled, i didnt see any cooling fins on the cylinder. Also, it had the black "plug" or whatever it is up at the top of the cylinder(probably cam), which is enough proof to know it was not the 400 ex motor.

RoostKing,

What I was meaning by excess cash funds is they had to come up with a rolling 400EX frame and then come up with a XR650r motor and put them together.

They had to come up with a few thousand dollars and lots of free time to do this. If this person had access to different parts it would be easy to match things up but for the average Joe this could get quite expensive and the end result being not very good.

Could you tell if this was a dealer or just an individual who wants a 650r bad enough to do it?

So what if it wasn't fast and got beat by a quad that was probably MUCH cheaper.... I bet it handled better in the woods and MX tracks... Bwah, hah hah!!!
