Blake you'll see alot of info on both the Banshee and the 400ex. They're both great bikes, and they both haul ***. The banshee is a little faster, but the 400ex is lighter and handles better. The Banshee is a 2-stroke and the 400ex is a 4-stroke. You really need to ride em, they're both great bikes. I've heard from Banshee owners that riding their quads through the wooded trails isn't as fun, because Banshee's like to rev, and the cornoring isn't that tight. But it all depends on what terrain you'll be riding on, and how you'll be riding it. I own a 400ex and I love it, but many of my friends have 400's and Banshees. They're both great quads. Good luck!

blake350- In MY OPINION, i would buy the 400EX, it is more technologically advanced, the banshee was drawn up in 1985. the banshee may be faster but that is all it has going for it. the EX handles better, jumps better, and is a great machine. You would be happy with both of them. the banshee is a 2 stroke, which means a little more maintence, with Honda's reliable four stroke under you, you will be fine. that is my 2 cents.

Hard Packed Terrain: Banshee
Jumps: 400EX
Trails: 400EX
Whoops: 400EX, but Banshee with new suspension will be great
Sand:Banshee
Dirt:?
Mud: 400EX

Even though I perfer the 400EX in mroe of these things, doesn't mean they will be better. Remember its all about the rider. I say take a test ride on both and see which one feels better.

Well my friend I have owned both of them. I also have owned several warriors and a 250R.
I have ridden the dunes out west and the hills of the east. Stick to the honda unless you move west.

You need to get yourself a copy of 4-Wheel ATV Action (Jan. 2000) and read the article titled "Ultimate Hi-Perfomance Shootout". They ran a DS650, 400EX, Banshee, and a TRX 250R. After everything was said and done, the late, great 250R still came out on top, with a close second going to the 400, then the DS650, and finally the Banshee. This is based on all out performance as well as chassis design and ergonomics. Get yourself a copy and read pages 16-26. Great article!

Blake350, there are a couple of other things that you apparently did not read about in your expansive collection of ATV magazines. These include the Banshee being front-heavy, having a poor and outdated suspension, having the worst original equipment tires of any quad produced, and no electric start. Not that the electric start is really important, unless you kill it on the side of a hill. Ever been in this position. You are bent over the handlebars trying to keep it from flipping backwards in that uncomforting position between being on 4 wheels and 2 wheels and starting the beast all the while. This is where the electric works best. But it sounds like you have done your homework and have already made up your mind. I guess the rest of Honda owners are a bunch of idiots for having what 4-Wheel ATV Action called the "ATV of the Decade". Why don't you go to the Yamaha side and get some reassurance.
